On 29 May 2018, on the margins of the meeting of the UniGR Council of Presidents and Rectors, the partner universities in the University of the Greater Region (UniGR) took part in their annual sports and culture day.
Some 120 participants from the University of Kaiserslautern, the University of Liège, the University of Lorraine, the University of Luxembourg, Saarland University and Trier University attended the event in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.

In the morning, the University of Luxembourg welcomed its partners to Belval Campus for a tour of the Cité des Sciences and the blast furnaces, which together encapsulate the essence of the former steelworks that has been transformed into a university campus and a thriving hub of activity.
In the afternoon, at sports facilities in Esch-sur-Alzette, the students and staff from the various universities competed together in a football tournament and in CrossFit and Flag Rugby events.

The day ended with a victory for Kaiserslautern in the football and triumph for Liège in the CrossFit and Flag Rugby. The presidents and rectors of the six universities awarded prizes to the winning teams.
