What is the UniGR mobility fund? For which purposes can I claim travel allowances?

The UniGR mobility fund aims at supporting short-term mobility between the partner universities of the “University of the Greater Region” confederation. Here are the eligible mobility types:

  • attending lectures
  • participating in conferences, summer schools or similar events organised by one of the partner universities or of the « University of the Greater Region »
  • visiting a university library
  • using research equipment
  • meeting with a supervisor of your (final) thesis

Doctoral candidates are also allowed to claim allowances when:

  • participating in a seminar, a conference or a workshop
  • meeting with your co-supervisor in the framework of a thesis under co-supervision (“co-tutelle de these”).

How much do I get?

The amount of the allowance, paid as a lump sum, depends on the destination:

  • Luxembourg – Kaiserslautern: 49 EUR
  • Luxembourg – Liège / Arlon: 24,20 EUR / 12,20 EUR
  • Luxembourg – Metz: 24,10 EUR
  • Luxembourg – Nancy: 31 EUR
  • Luxembourg – Saarbrücken (& Homburg): 23 EUR (& 29,50 EUR)
  • Luxembourg – Trier: 15,20 EUR

The ceiling amount of the allowance is set to 450 euros per student per semester.

Exclusion criteria

If you are already receiving financial support from other sources for your stay at the partner university in question, you are excluded from the funding. If you spend an entire semester at a partner university and/or have moved to the partner region, you are also not eligible for grants from the mobility fund.

How to request your travel allowance?

Applications, including the following documents, should be submitted prior to the first trip to one of the UniGR partner university to the UniGR officer of the University of Luxembourg:


Please note that it is sufficient to fill in a single application form for recurrent trips (e.g. course attendance, regular meetings with a supervisor or similar).

After your stay, please hand in the following documents:

The travel allowance will be paid on the basis of the “declaration of expenses” that you will be asked to submit after the stay has been completed. In case of recurrent travel, the travel allowance will be paid at the end of the semester.
