The UniGR continues to develop consistently on its path towards a European higher education model
Durch eine assoziierte Partnerschaft wird die Zusammenarbeit mit der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft des Saarlandes (htw saar) vertieft. Zudem gibt der Hochschulverbund künftig allen Studierenden der Partnerhochschulen die Möglichkeit, sich fundiertes Wissen über Europa anzueignen und dabei ein “EurIdentity Certificate” zu erwerben. Dieses Zertifikat wird als Erasmus+-Projekt mit rund 300.000 Euro gefördert. Auch das Zentrum für Grenzraumstudien (UniGR-Center for Border Studies) wird weiterhin mit EU-Geldern unterstützt.

The 5th Forum Greater Region on "Climate change and sustainability in the Greater Region" will be held online on 10 September 2020 from 3pm to 4.30pm.
We are currently experiencing multiple crises, such as the global health crisis and related social and economic crises. In addition, climate change and its consequences represent one of the greatest global challenges of our time. Rising temperatures, storms, dwindling biodiversity and other consequences of climate change do not stop at regional or national borders. Climate change is a cross-border phenomenon with locally diverse manifestations, which are also felt in the Greater Region. But how do we counter this long-term crisis?

Au cours de la pandémie COVID-19, les frontières ont (re)pris de l'importance dans l'action politique et dans la vie quotidienne en très peu de temps. C'était particulièrement vrai pour les habitants des régions frontalières, dont le quotidien transfrontalier était soudainement irrité par la fermeture des frontières et les contrôles de police. Toutefois, la pandémie de COVID-19 a également entraîné une perception accrue des frontières sociales, culturelles, économiques, sanitaires et de mobilité au-delà des frontières nationales.

Borders are a central topic in Brexit. Concepts of rebordering and debordering were an important part of the referendum campaign in 2016 and since then have played a decisive role in negotiations with the EU. The conflict related to the border within Ireland shows how historically embedded this issue is.
Die Kooperation innerhalb der UniGR in Zeiten des Coronavirus
Mit der Corona-Pandemie haben die Partneruniversitäten der UniGR, wie alle Akteure im Hochschul- und Forschungsbereich, außergewöhnliche Herausforderungen gemeistert. Trotz der Schließung der Grenzen und der neuen Organisationsformen hat die interuniversitäre Zusammenarbeit eine neue Dimension angenommen, was insbesondere zu mehr Austausch auf allen Ebenen und zur Identifizierung neuer Kooperationsfelder geführt hat.
Long-term challenges linked to cross-border mobility in the Greater Region
The 6th seminar of the UniGR-Center for Border Studies organised by the University of Liège was held online on 8 and 9 June 2020. This new format was chosen in response to the health crisis and the constraints imposed on participants in the different parts of the Greater Region. This edition of the seminar was devoted to the long-term challenges linked to cross-border mobility in the Greater Region, with a particular focus on the relationship between this mobility and the organization of work in this territory.

Border closures and controls gave rise to the online roundtable discussion on 28 May 2020, which was organized with the support of the University of the Greater Region as part of the conference series "Border Realities: Challenges and Perspectives in Uncertain Times".
Project Pth4GR²ID : The evolution of the heat pump - reactive, predictive and economically regulated
Depuis 2016, un consortium de recherche composé de quatre universités partenaires de l'UniGR et d'autres partenaires de la Grande Région, dirigé par l'Université de Liège, étudie dans le cadre du projet PtH4GR²ID (Power to Heat for the Greater Region's Renewables Integration and Development) l’intégration massive de pompes à chaleur contrôlées sur le marché ainsi que leurs impacts au point de vue énergétique et économique. Le projet est financé par l'UE dans le cadre d'un programme INTERREG. L'équipe de recherche est composée de personnel de l'Université de Liège, de différents départements de l'Université technique de Kaiserslautern1, de l'IZES gGmbH, de l'Université du Luxembourg et de l'Université de Lorraine en collaboration avec des partenaires stratégiques du domaine.
E-Summer School 2020 at the Université de Lorraine
La première école d'été en ligne de l'Université de Lorraine a été lancée le 30 juin et se poursuivra jusqu'au 8 juillet. Sous le slogan “L’entrepreneuriat et l’innovation dans un environnement interculturel”, elle comprend un cours en ligne pour s'approprier des compétences importantes au niveau de l'entrepreneuriat. Elle s’adresse à tout.e.s les étudiant.e.s et doctorant.e.s francophones intéressé.e.s de la Grande Région.
