UniGR- CIRKLA

 

The European Interreg project UniGR-CIRKLA connects science, industry, and society to promote the transition to a circular economy for metals and materials in the Greater Region.

Supported by the Interreg VI A Greater Region programme (2021–2027), UniGR-CIRKLA is the second Interdisciplinary Centre of Expertise of UniGR and brings together a wide range of activities with a clear mission: to create cross-border expertise that enables sustainable and resource-efficient management of metals and materials across all sectors of the economy and daily life. Collaboration, knowledge-sharing and practical engagement lie at the heart of the initiative — across four countries, three languages, and a wealth of academic and professional disciplines.


     

Sharing knowledge

Tailored training formats — from exhibitions and academic programs to doctoral schools and workshops — open up the diverse world of the circular transition in the Greater Region, making it accessible and engaging for pupils, students, doctoral candidates, entrepreneurs, and all those eager to explore circular economy.

 

Uniting resources and expertise

The Greater Region—shaped by industrial heritage and scientific diversity—offers fertile ground for developing circular economy solutions. Cross-border collaboration between businesses, startups, universities, and a wide range of actors from Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Germany creates momentum for joint projects and sustainable partnerships. Drawing on insights from disciplines such as materials science, engineering, economics, law, environmental and social sciences, we begin to rethink how we manage and value our resources.

 

Shaping Futures together

The challenges of the circular economy extend far beyond the Greater Region’s borders. They require holistic approaches that integrate ecological, economic, and social factors. Innovative business models, smart construction methods, durable products, and responsible consumption are key building blocks to use materials more efficiently and minimize waste.
