
"Border Renaissance: Recent Developments in Territorial, Cultural and Linguistic Border Studies"
Conference of the Interreg VA-Project "European Center for Competence and Knowledge in Border Studies" within the UniGR-Center for Border Studies (UniGR-CBS)

The aim of the conference is, on the one hand, to elaborate the renaissance of the border in various thematic fields and to identify its challenges for future research. For this purpose, recent developments in territorial, cultural and linguistic border research will be applied. On the other hand, the research strands of spatial and cultural border research conducted in the UniGR-CBS will be brought together. This will consolidate the cooperation within the UniGR-CBS and strengthen the dialogue with international border researchers.
The conference will include presentations by renowned speakers such as Luxembourg's Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, border researcher Prof. Victor Konrad from Carleton University in Canada and many others.
In addition, there will be a panel discussion on the topic of the "Impact of the health crisis on European border regions", which will be moderated by Jun.-Prof. Dr. habil. Florian Weber and will include the following participants:
- Roland Theis, State Secretary for Justice and Europe, Plenipotentiary for European Affairs of the Saarland,
- Prof. Dr. Heinrich Kreft, Director of the Chair of Democracy at the Andrássy University in Budapest (Hungary) and former German Ambassador to Luxembourg,
- Dr. habil. Joanna Kurowska-Pysz from WSB University in Dabrowa Górnicza (Poland) and guest professor of the UniGR-Center for Border Studies,
- Prof. Dr. Grégory Hamez, Geography professor at Université de Lorraine.
The conference will be held in three languages: English, French and German with simultaneous interpretation of the plenary events.
The event will be held on site in compliance with 2G Plus regulations.
