Soil Walks: Exploring spatial planning together, on site
A Soil Walk is a guided walk through a specific place, such as an urban neighbourhood, village or development area. Together, participants explore the area, its uses and the changes taking place directly on site.
The place itself becomes the starting point for observation, exchange and learning. Buildings, open spaces, roads, green spaces and soils are explored alongside their uses and the changes taking place in the area.
Here, professional knowledge from spatial planning and urban development meets local experience and personal perceptions. Bringing together different perspectives helps us to better understand a place, identify existing challenges and think together about its future development.
The three phases of a Soil Walk

The first phase focuses on experiencing and exploring the area through direct observation and sensory perception. |

This is followed by a phase of discussion and joint interpretation, using simple visual or mapping tools. |
 |
Finally, the third phase invites participants to look ahead and develop ideas and desirable scenarios for the future of the area. |
