For the second time, the Association for Borderland Studies, the world’s largest network of researchers in border studies, is organizing the World Conference Border Studies. The conference with the main focus on “Border Making and its Consequences” will take place in two countries and is co-organized by the University of Vienna (AT) and the Central European University in Budapest (HU). The UniGR-Center for Border Studies is involved in the international 5-day conference as a partner, covering the sections on Southwestern Europe.
By sending 17 researchers, the UniGR-Center for Border Studies makes a strong appearance at the World Conference. The UniGR border researchers from the University of Luxembourg (4), Saarland University (5), University of Trier (2), University of Lorraine (5), and University of Liège (1) are organizing seven panels focusing on cultural and social studies. The main topics are migration, cross-border mobility, labor market, regional development, and border theory. In the panel “What is Border Studies?” the UniGR-Center for Border Studies aims at initiating debates about the emerging multidisciplinary research topic itself.
Furthermore, Saarland University collaborates with the University of Vienna and has received a grant from the Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung for its project „Border-Making and its Consequences: A Global Overview,“ a multi-media project which will make selected presentations at the World Conference available for digital learning activities.
Already within the frame of the 2016 European conference of the Association for Borderland Studies, the UniGR-Center for Border Studies was an important partner.
