The Improve-Stem project aims to develop an integrated set of tools necessary for the amplification of mesenchymal stem cells to promote their application in cell therapy in hospitals. These tools will rely on the adoption of microbeads whose surface will be optimized to ensure a control of the adhesion of the cells and on the design of a bioreactor whose operating conditions will be adapted for the cultivation of adherent cells on microbeads.

This project involves many UniGR universities (Université of Liège, Université of Lorraine, Université of Kaiserslautern) as well as research centers (LIST, INM, CNRS)The multidisciplinary consortium brings together advanced skills in materials science, bioprocess engineering and cell biology. At the scale of the Greater Region, it forms the basis of a Platform of Excellence in the cultivation of mesenchymal stem cells.

The project officially began in january 2017 and will last for 3 years.
