Eating at the universities

The university restaurants provided for students and members of the university staff are services managed by different bodies, which vary depending on each institution. They offer not only meals and snacks at preferential prices, but also set menus ranging from breakfast to dinner. Please note however that some university restaurants are only accessible to people in possession of a specific card which can be topped up and enables them to pay for their meals.

In Germany the Studentenwerke can provide you with information about the nearest “Mensa”. Their websites or that of the university will tell you the opening times and the menus and introduce you to their infrastructures, whether it is Kaiserslautern, Saarland or Trier.

Payment is possible in cash or with a special card such as the Mensakarte at Kaiserslautern, or the student card (Studierendenausweis) at Trier and Saarland University.

In Liège you will find the information you are looking for on the website of the asbl (non-profit making organisation) Restaurants Universitaires, which serves both students and staff of ULg.

In France, it is the CROUS (Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) which deals with catering facilities. For the university restaurants of Metz and Nancy, contact the CROUS of Nancy-Metz: this manages the “Restau’ U”. You need to be in possession of the “carte CLE” to be able to use it. You will be provided with your “carte CLE” at the time of your enrolment, as this is also your student card.

In Luxembourg, students sometimes share the university canteens with other institutions such as the neighbouring lycées. A canteen card is required: you should apply for this from the SEVE (Service des Études et de la Vie Étudiante).
