The project “University of the Greater Region” is funded by the European Union as part of the Interreg IV A Greater Region programme. The project was approved in September 2008 and started on 15th October 2008. Duration is expected to be 3.5 years and a total amount of around €6 million.

In addition to the European Union, the six partner universities and the federal states and regions of Saarland, Wallonia, Lorraine and Rhineland-Palatinate are also involved in the financing.

As an active actor of the Greater Region, the project UniGR is also partner and member of the working group "Higher Education and Research" of the Greater Region that edits a guide of Higher Education and Research in the Greater Region on a regular basis.
